What is golf rehabilitation?
Golf rehabilitation is designed to help golfers recover from injuries or conditions that limit their ability to play golf or participate in other physical activities.
At Parkway Rehab, we have a Golf Fit Programme to help individuals regain their mobility, strength, and range of motion, and to help prevent future injuries. It also helps golfers to understand the biomechanics of their golf swing and identify the areas of improvement for them.
Why do you need golf rehabilitation?
Other than managing the injuries related to golf, golf rehabilitation can also help to identify the biomechanical factors that might compromise the efficiency of a golfer’s swing and help treat them in order to improve the swing efficiency.
Some conditions that can benefit from our Golf Fit Programme include:
- Golf-related injuries: These include injuries to the back, shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee, and ankle. Golfers are at risk of developing these types of injuries due to the repetitive nature of the golf swing.
- Chronic pain conditions: Conditions such as arthritis, tendonitis, and bursitis can cause chronic pain that can limit a person's ability to play golf.
- General fitness / Biomechanical analysis of the golf swing: Even individuals without specific injuries or conditions can benefit from golf rehabilitation to improve their overall fitness and golf game.
Our programme can be beneficial for individuals who want to improve their golf game, recover from injury or surgery, or simply maintain their overall physical health and well-being.
What can you expect during golf rehabilitation?
Golf rehabilitation involves thorough assessment and a combination of exercises, stretches, and other therapeutic techniques designed to improve muscle strength, flexibility, and mobility.
At Parkway Rehab centres, our Golf Fit Programme includes injury management and swing screening.
Screening of the golf swing
Our rehabilitation centres offer a comprehensive screening of the golf swing, conducted by our TPI-certified physiotherapist. This screening helps to identify the physical factors that may be compromising the efficiency of your swing and to identify injuries that may be affecting the normal body movements.
We believe there is no one “perfect” technique for an efficient swing. The most efficient swing is unique to every golfer, because efficiency is unique to their body. To achieve an efficient swing, a golfer must first be screened for their body movement and any underlying injuries that might alter it.
We use the TPI Level 1 & 2 assessment screen, globally recognised and widely used by coaches and medical professions. It is a series of physical tests conducted by our certified physiotherapists. The results are used to create an intervention plan unique to that golfer. The plan may include physical therapy comprising of manual therapy, exercise intervention or pain management.
Our TPI-certified physiotherapists are trained in the biomechanics of golf swing and are adept in identifying any non-optimal movement pattern and in treating the physical limitations associated with it (e.g. strength, mobility, core stability).
